The Iranian government announced this Thursday that another 2,500 people have tested positive and nearly 200 have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, amid the country’s second wave of infections.
Ministry of Health spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari has pointed out that 1,914 of the 2,500 new infections have to be hospitalized, while the total number of cases since the pandemic started has reached 267,061.
According to the Iranian news agency Mehr, 198 people have died in the last 24 hours from COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, for a total of 13,608.
On the other hand, he stressed that the provinces of East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Bushehr, Golestán, Hormozgán, Ilam, Jorasán Razavi, Juzestán, Kermanshá, Kurdistán, Mazandarán and Zanján are due to the number of cases of coronavirus.
The country has been recovering in some cases for several weeks due to the increase in infections due to the start of the de-escalation process and the reopening of the economy after the limits were decided at the start of the pandemic.
