As of this Sunday, the Iranian government has ordered the mask to be used in public transport and in the country’s institutions, as it is unable to reduce the contagion curve, which again exceeded 2,400 cases this Saturday, on the way to a total of 240,000 infected and now more than 11,000 deaths.
Health spokesperson Sima Sadat Lari’s recent record includes 2,449 new cases for a total of 237,787 infections and 148 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 11,408.
A total of 3,136 patients are in the intensive care unit and the discharges have reached 198,949 recovered patients.
However, the situation remains critical. The country’s president, Hasan Rohani, has ordered that “from Sunday no single official will be present without a mask” and has announced that the lack of face protection is “de facto” a violation of other people’s rights “”
Rohani has also instructed national mask manufacturers to maintain production volume, thereby meeting demand in a country where a new infection is registered every 33 seconds and a death occurs every 13 minutes.
