The Iranian government reported this Sunday that the country is approaching 20,000 coronavirus deaths after another 147 deaths were recorded on the last day.
Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari has indicated that 343,203 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded since the pandemic began, after adding another 2,133 since Saturday, 1,019 of which had to be hospitalized.
“Unfortunately, in the past 24 hours, 147 COVID-19 patients have died and the total number of deaths has reached 19,639,” he told IRNA news agency.
Currently, 297,486 people have managed to recover from the disease, although 3,881 patients remain in critical condition. Health officials have stated that 2.8 million COVID-19 tests have been carried out across the country.
Health Minister Said Namaki announced on Wednesday that some of the country-developed vaccines will “soon” enter the clinical trial phase, though that opened the door to working with other governments to get supplies. Tehran has questioned the vaccine, which Moscow has already registered.
