The Iranian Ministry of Health reported 2,313 new cases of coronavirus within 24 hours this Friday. This brings the preliminary number of people infected since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to 397,801.
According to official data, 342,539 people have recovered from the infection while 22,913 have lost their lives, 115 more than in statistics released on Thursday, reports the IRNA news agency.
Of the confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, more than half (1,253) correspond to patients who were already in the hospital. The Iranian Ministry of Health estimates that 3,753 people remain in intensive care units.
Iran maintains restrictive measures to contain the virus, but these do not prevent the second round of parliamentary elections from starting this Friday morning, with MPs being elected in ten constituencies. Authorities have enabled health protocols in the 3,100 open schools.
