The Iranian Ministry of Health has confirmed another 2,200 new cases of coronavirus infection and 57 other deaths this Saturday, representing a total of 7,734 deaths in the Islamic Republic since the pandemic was declared.
Health spokesman Kianush Jahanpur in particular has reported 2,282 new cases in the country since Friday, affecting a total of 148,950.
Jahanpur has also confirmed that a total of 116,827 people have recovered from the disease, but 2,533 of those admitted are in critical condition, according to the official Iranian news agency IRNA.
Iran, the most pandemic-stricken country in the Middle East, began lifting restrictions to curb the outbreak in late April when it managed to reduce the number of daily infections to less than a thousand. However, there has been a recovery in recent weeks.
