Iran has confirmed more than 2,100 daily cases and more than 200 deaths in the past few hours

The Iranian government announced this Sunday that over the past 24 hours, more than 2,100 people have tested positive and more than 200 have died from coronavirus amid the second wave of infections in the country.

Ministry of Health spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari has pointed out that 1,324 of the 2,182 new infections need to be hospitalized, while the total number of cases since the pandemic started has reached 273,656.

He also noted that 209 people have died in the past 24 hours from COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, which, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA, increases the total to 14,188.

According to the spokeswoman, a total of 237,788 people have been released, while 3,556 are in critical condition.
