September 18, 2020

The Iranian Ministry of Health this Friday reported more than 3,000 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, a threshold the Islamic Republic had not hit since June 4, when it exceeded 3,500 infections in a single day.

In particular, health officials have updated the balance with 3,049 new positives to a total of 416,198 since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The death toll has risen to 23,952, according to the IRNA agency, 144 more than in the report released on Thursday.

About half (1,593) of the most recently identified cases correspond to patients who are already in the hospital. The intensive care units in Iran currently accommodate 3,869 seriously ill patients, while the number of recovered patients is 355,505.
