The Iranian Ministry of Health has confirmed more than 2,500 new cases of coronavirus and nearly 170 more deaths across the country in the past few hours. That already equates to nearly 340,000 infections and has exceeded 19,300 deaths since the pandemic was declared.
In particular, there are 2,501 new cases and 169 more deaths, bringing the total death toll to 19,331 in the Islamic Republic, which has been hovering around these daily numbers for weeks as it is impossible to re-quarantine due to the precarious situation in the economy Country, under pressure from United States sanctions.
Health spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari has indicated that of the new cases, a total of 1,173 patients had to be hospitalized and that a further 3,956 affected are in critical condition. A total of 293,811 people have already been medically discharged.
Faced with this situation, the Ministry of Health has again urged citizens to adhere to safety protocols. “The virus is still spreading rapidly around the world, and the most important factor in breaking the chain of the virus is following the three principles of physical distance, regular hand washing and wearing of masks,” he said.
“We hope that, thanks to the cooperation and empathy of others to adhere to these principles, we will witness the breakdown of the chain of infection in the country,” the ministry added in a statement from the official Iranian IRNA.
