Iran's Coast Guard has captured a vessel with twelve Filipino crew in the Persian Gulf on suspicion that it would be smuggling fuel, Iran’s ISNA news agency reported Saturday.
The ship carries about 284,000 liters of diesel fuel. Iran, which has very low fuel prices for state subsidies and the fall of its currency, has long been fighting fuel smuggling to neighboring countries by land and sea.
With some frequency, the authorities of the Islamic Republic announce the capture of ships and vessels under the charge of smuggling fuel to other countries in the Gulf region.
