Iran Brands US allegations of arms confiscation from Houthis in Yemen “unfounded”

The Iranian government denied on Thursday that the U.S. forces had seized a ship loaded with Iranian weapons that was supposed to be delivered to the Houthis in Yemen, which would violate the United Nations arms embargo on the country.

The allegation was raised on Wednesday by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who claimed that Washington and its allies confiscated a ship on June 28 with an alleged Iran-made weapon en route to Yemen.

In response, Iran’s Department of State spokesman Abbas Musavi has pointed out that the allegations are “unfounded” and branded Pompeo an “agitator” while arguing that the United States’ goal is for the United Nations to do so Agreement extends embargo against Tehran.

He said that the US government “is trying to find excuses to maintain its” maximum pressure “campaign and advance its evil targets by making accusations and lies,” the State Department reports on its website.
