Iranian President Hassan Rohani has recognized that the country will have to accept between 30 and 35 million infections with the new corona virus in the coming months. The last official number released this Saturday rose to 271,606 infected and 13,979 deaths.
“According to the deputy health minister for research, between 30 and 35 million people will be exposed to the disease in the coming months,” said Rohani, according to the semi-official Iranian news agency ISNA.
“According to the same report from a thousand people infected with coronavirus, 500 are asymptomatic and pose a great risk of transmission to other people,” added Rohani.
For this reason, the President has asked the population and public authorities to make “enormous efforts” to “break the chain of infection”, observing the recommendations and protocols: use of a mask, physical distance and avoidance of people concentrations.
