Iran announces the arrest of ten people suspected of spying for foreign intelligence agencies

According to the Iranian news agency Mehr, the Iranian authorities have announced the arrest of ten people suspected of spying on behalf of foreign intelligence agencies without specifying which countries they belong to.

Iranian intelligence has issued a statement pointing out that the arrests took place in the southern province of Bushehr, adding that they worked for the intelligence services of “regional countries allied with Western powers.”

The only nuclear power plant in Iran, which was commissioned in 2011 with Russian help, is located in the province of Bushehr. Iran shut down the plant for several days in June after reporting a technical problem at the facility.

The Iranian government assured in July that it had arrested members of a network of agents who work for the Israeli Mossad and plan to infiltrate anti-government protests into water through drought and poor maintenance of the water network.
