Iranian authorities on Monday reported more than 2,100 infections and 189 deaths within 24 hours due to the coronavirus pandemic, which is causing more than 328,000 positive events in the country. This is the 10th in the world hardest hit by the outbreak that started in the city of Wuhan China in 2019.
In particular, Iran has already registered 328,844 positives, of which 286,642 correspond to discharged patients. On the other hand, 18,616 COVID-19 patients have lost their lives, said Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari in daily balance.
Of the 2,132 confirmed cases since Sunday, just over a thousand have resulted in the patient being admitted. The government spokesman has confirmed that nearly 4,000 people have been admitted to intensive care units due to COVID-19, according to the official IRNA agency.
Iran has failed to contain the outbreak since the de-escalation of the restrictive measures adopted in March began in May. The government has tightened certain restrictions and required citizens to comply with hygiene and distancing measures.
