The pandemic of the new corona virus originating in the Chinese city of Wuhan has left 2,388 new cases and 199 deaths in Iran in the past 24 hours. A total of more than 264,000 people infected and more than 13,000 deaths have been reported by the Ministry of Health of the Islamic Republic.
At a press conference at the department’s headquarters in Tehran, Iran’s Department of Health spokesman Sadat Lari said the balance was 264,561 infected people and 13,410 deaths from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
Of the 2,388 new cases, 1,775 correspond to patients who had to be hospitalized. Of the total number of people infected with coronavirus, 227,561 people have overcome COVID-19 and have been released. Another 3,411 are in intensive care units in hospitals, according to the official IRNA news agency.
To date, the Islamic Republic’s authorities have performed more than 2.08 million tests to detect cases of coronavirus. Since mid-May, Iran has been suffering from a second wave of coronavirus infections, which has kept the daily growth rate of over 2,000 cases in recent days.
