Indonesia has exceeded 100,000 coronavirus cases after adding more than 1,500 in the past few hours. Earlier, President Joko Widodo urged members of his government to maintain the “feeling of crisis.”
The Ministry of Health reported Monday that 1,525 new cases were registered in those 24 hours, including a record 467 in the Indonesian capital Jakarta for a total of 100,303 infected people, including 4,838 deaths.
Indonesia is the most pandemic-stricken country in Southeast Asia, above China – where COVID-19 originated -, South Korea and Japan, although it has made further progress in reopening.
“Let us not lose the feeling of the crisis,” said the president of his government. “The goal is clear: reduce the mortality rate as much as possible, increase the recovery rate and stop new cases,” he said in a statement by the DPA news agency.
In particular, he urged ministers to take advantage of the $ 48,000 million stimulus package, only 19 percent of which was used. “We have to work quickly,” he urged.
