India tops 90,000 COVID-19 cases in one day for the first time

India registered a new record of coronavirus infections this Sunday of at least 90,632 in 24 hours and is already close to the global numbers for Brazil, the second largest country with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world after the United States.

The latest data from the Indian Ministry of Health shows 4,113,811 infections as of this Sunday, of which more than 862,000 are considered active cases. The government has highlighted that the daily number of people recovered has also set a record at more than 70,000 in 24 hours.

India has recorded 70,626 deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic, 1,065 since Saturday, according to statistics from NDTV television network.

Maharashtra, the Indian state hardest hit by the pandemic, concentrated almost a quarter of its daily infections this Sunday and hit an unprecedented level with nearly 20,500 infections in 24 hours. In this condition alone, more than 883,000 positive results have been confirmed since the outbreak began.
