India tops 31.6 million coronavirus cases after adding more than 41,000 on the last day

Indian authorities reported more than 41,000 cases of coronavirus on the last day this Saturday, crossing the country’s 31.6 million infection threshold since the pandemic began, which also claimed more than 420,000 deaths in Indian territory.

The Indian government said in its balance sheet, published on the social network Twitter, that there have been 41,649 positive and 593 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 31,613,993 and 423,810 respectively.

The state of Kerala appears to have been hit hardest for another day after a recovery in infections that in recent days has resulted in roughly half of the cases being reported nationwide. More than 20,700 positives were added on the last day.

Even so, Kerala’s Health Minister Vina George said on Friday that the “defense measures have been very good,” adding that “the situation is absolutely under control,” Indian television broadcaster NDTV reported.

“A team visited Kerala a few weeks ago. They visited many places, hospitals, many districts. They told us that they were satisfied with the measures taken by the (state) government. They told us that there was a valley here is expected “phase”, he explained.

On the flip side, the executive branch has stated that there are currently about 409,000 active cases in the country while 30,781,263 people have recovered from COVID-19, including about 37,300 in the last day.
