India exceeded 2.7 million cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday after adding another 55,000 infections in the past 24 hours. According to the US state, India is the third country health ministry most severely affected by the pandemic worldwide.
On the final day, 55,079 cases were recorded, bringing the total to 2,702,742, while more than 1.97 million people have already overcome the disease, a recovery rate of 73.18 percent, according to the ministry.
On the flip side, the death rate remains at 1.92 percent after an additional 876 deaths, making a total of 51,797. According to the Ministry of Health, more than 70 percent of those who died had other prior ailments. There are currently more than 673,000 active cases in the Asian country.
India exceeded 2 million cases of COVID-19 on August 7, for which it added another 700,000 infections in ten days. To date, more than 3 million tests have been carried out in the country.
