The new coronavirus pandemic originating in the Chinese city of Wuhan has left 96,551 new cases and 1,209 deaths in India in the past 24 hours. This is a new record of positive results in one day and more than 4.5 million infected people and 76,000 deaths according to the latest balance released by the Indian Ministry of Health.
With the new data, the pandemic balance on Indian soil as of Friday stands at 4,562,414 infected people and 76,271 deaths. There are already more than 3.5 million people in India who have managed to overcome COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus.
The death rate from the disease has dropped to 1.67 percent, and the recovery rate is 77.65 percent of those infected, according to the PTI news agency. Of the total cases, 943,480 are active infections, which is 20.68 percent of the total.
India exceeded two million infections on August 7, hit three million on August 23 and four million on September 5. To date, health officials have completed 54.09 million coronavirus tests, including 1.16 million tests that were completed Thursday, according to the Indian Medical Research Council.
