India imposes a curfew in Kashmir on the first anniversary of the special status withdrawal

India has announced a curfew that will take effect on Tuesday and Wednesday to avoid unrest on the first anniversary of special status withdrawal from the Jammu and Kashmir region.

This has been decided by the regional government, indicating that it fears that Pakistan-backed “terrorists” will try to wreak havoc on August 5, a year after Article 370 of the Indian Constitution was repealed.

“There are specific reports of violent protests that would threaten the lives and property of Jammu and Kashmiri residents,” Deputy Police Commissioner Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said in the Times of India.
