The Indian Ministry of Health reported 412,262 new cases of coronavirus and 3,980 more deaths on Thursday, marking a new high in the daily numbers of the pandemic in the country, which is in a critical health situation.
With last day’s data, India has already collected 21,077,410 confirmed positive results since the pandemic outbreak that resulted in a total of 230,168 deaths, compared to 17,280,844 people who managed to recover.
The new record for infections and deaths was broken a day after the government warned that a third wave of the disease was inevitable and after two weeks in which the daily number of new cases remained above 300,000.
Amid the surge in cases, Karnakata state was second to break the record of 50,000 cases per day by adding that number on the final day, a tragic milestone only Maharashtra, the hardest-hit state to date, had reached.
In fact, 57,640 new positives were registered in this area, a number that is an increase from the previous days.
After the health system collapsed due to the lack of beds and supplies for those affected, the country continues its vaccination campaign that has so far enabled the use of 162,523,339 doses, 1,955,733 on the last day.
