India exceeds half a million infections after hitting a new record of 18,500 daily cases

The Indian government announced on Saturday that the country has exceeded 500,000 coronavirus infections after adding 18,500 new cases in the past 24 hours, a new daily record.

The balance updated to June 27 is 508,953 confirmed cases, including 197,387 active, 295,880 recovered (10,244 new layoffs) and 15,685 deceased (384 deaths since Friday).

More than half of the infections discovered in India, now the fourth country with the most cases of Covid-19, are concentrated in three areas: Maharashtra (152,765), Delhi (77,240) and Tamil Nadu (74,622).

India is continuing its upward trend, far from the restrictions it imposed in March when the Narendra Modi government ordered the restriction of the country’s 1.3 billion inhabitants.
