India exceeds 10,000 daily COVID-19 infections for the first time and is close to 300,000

There are almost 300,000 new coronavirus cases in India after the 10,000 daily infections threshold was exceeded for the first time. This corresponds to a balance sheet by the Ministry of Health, which also includes a record number of people killed by COVID-19.

In particular, the authorities have registered another 10,956 people infected since Thursday, which increases the provisional figure to over 297,000. According to the Times of India newspaper, the death toll rose to 8,498,396 compared to the previous day.

India is the fourth country most affected by the pandemic, only after the United States, Brazil and Russia, and after the UK overrun. Taking into account the data of the deceased, Johns Hopkins University puts it in eleventh place.
