The Indian health authorities have confirmed a record 7,964 new infections in the last 24 hours, which means that, according to the latest information from the Indian media, it occupies the ninth largest affected country in the world with coronaviruses.

Overall, the country has registered 173,763 infections and 4,971 deaths, while the affected curve is rising, although the mortality rate is lower than in other countries with more registered cases.

The country’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, asked the population for unity this Saturday through an open letter to the first year of his second term at the head of the government.

Modi has warned the population that he is facing a “long fight” against the corona virus, which is particularly worrying in India due to the vulnerability of residents in the huge neighborhoods of its major cities and the displacement of migrant workers.
