The Hungarian health authorities reported 718 new infections with the new coronavirus this Friday, an unprecedented number since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With this new daily credit, there are already 10,909 confirmed positive results in Hungary, 6,264 of which are considered active cases, more than twice as many as in the previous week. The death of a patient this Friday raised the tentative balance of deaths to 631, according to local media.
Prime Minister Viktor Orban has spoken out in favor of tightening sanctions against those violating infection containment restrictions, defending that these measures are essential to avoid a second detention. The increase in cases has led the UK to add Hungary to its list of countries at risk.
