The Hong Kong authorities are planning to close all schools in the region immediately due to the recent outbreak of 42 cases of COVID-19 registered this Friday, adding to the average of 20 cases confirmed daily that 29 people contracted the disease had come from Pakistan a few weeks ago.
Hong Kong had held stable numbers since the pandemic stabilized in China. With this new upturn of 42 cases, the number of cases accumulated is 1,365, an increase of 204 positive cases in the past two weeks, which coincides with the arrival of two aircraft from the Philippines and Pakistan with a total of 30 infections.
So far, the authorities of the former British colony have not confirmed whether the Hong Kong Book Fair, one of the largest and most massive in Asia to be held between July 15th and 21st this year, will be canceled, the South China Morning Post newspaper has told.
The Chinese Ministry of Health, for its part, reported on Friday that four other imported cases of coronavirus have been confirmed, none of them in Beijing, where the last outbreak affected 335 people.
