Hong Kong joins Beijing and registers a regrowth of 30 new cases imported from Pakistan

The Chinese Ministry of Health confirmed Tuesday that 30 newly imported cases have occurred in Hong Kong. This is the highest daily number in more than two months in this autonomous region of China, while Beijing continues to diagnose new positive results for local transmission. and there have been 249 since June 11th last year, when a new wave of infection broke out on the wholesale market in the southwestern Fengtai District.

Hong Kong had held stable numbers since the pandemic stabilized in China. Simultaneously with this recovery, with the number of infections at 1,161, the fifth death occurred on Sunday after more than two months without a death being confirmed by COVID-19. The number of people who managed to overcome the disease in the former British colony is 1,078.

Of the 30 people, with the exception of one person from the Philippines, the rest came from Pakistan, the South China Morning Post reported. All of them were isolated and waited for the disease to develop.

The Hong Kong authorities had already rated flights from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh as high risk, so travelers residing in the region had to go through a two-week quarantine.
