Hurricane ‘Hanna’ landed on Padre Island off the coast of Texas this Saturday and has reached Category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
The United States National Hurricane Center (CNH) has reported that the hurricane has so far produced winds at 150 kilometers per hour. It is the first phenomenon of this kind in the Atlantic this year.
‘Hanna’ was approaching the Texas coast at 5:00 p.m. local time, and authorities predict stronger winds than expected. Storms and heavy rainfall are also expected in southern Texas and the Mexican states of Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas.
Texas Governor Greg Abboty has made a disaster statement for 32 states and has requested a federal disaster statement that would allow the government to provide “public, financial, and mitigation assistance.”
