The Islamist movement Hamas has promised to expand its attacks on Israeli soil if the Israeli army resumes its policy of targeted killing, officials from the organization, which the Israeli authorities regard as a terrorist organization, told the daily Al Akhbar.
In the aftermath of the recent arson attacks, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz threatened Hamas “inflicting a very severe blow” in a statement the group understood as a resumption of the targeted murder policy abandoned by Israel. for years until the death of Hamas commander Hamed Ahmad al Jodari in 2018, his first attack of this kind since 2014.
The same sources assert that “the (Palestinian) resistance sent a message through intermediaries that it would react broadly and forcefully” if “the Israeli occupation carried out an assassination attempt”.
In this case, Hamas would understand the resumption of this policy as a “declaration of war” and threaten to “burn Tel Aviv with thousands of rockets”.
