June 17, 2020

The Haitian Ministry of Health has reported more than 9,300 suspected cases of COVID-19 in the Caribbean country that have entered the most complicated phase of the outbreak, namely widespread transmission by the community due to lack of resources and in some areas due to the prevailing uncertainty.

According to the latest government balance sheet, 9,353 suspected coronavirus cases have been identified, of which 4,547 have been confirmed, 106 more than in the previous balance sheet. The death toll has already risen to 80, four more, although the authorities themselves have recognized that the actual data could be higher.

In a statement to the newspaper “Le Nouvelliste”, the Director General of the Ministry, Lauré Adrien, said that Haiti is already in phase three, which is characterized by an increased transmission by the community and therefore the persecution of contacts and potential patients.
