United Nations Secretary General António Guterres on Wednesday condemned the attack by Afghanistan’s first Vice President Amrulá Salé and reiterated the country’s “urgency” to reach a “peaceful settlement”.
In a statement by his spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, Guterres also reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to assist the Afghan people and their government in “important efforts” for peace.
He also expressed his condolences and “deep condolences” to the families of the victims of the explosion and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Salé survived a car bomb explosion when the convoy of vehicles drove through Kabul. At least ten people were killed and more than a dozen were injured in the explosion. So far, no group has taken responsibility for the attack.
