An armed man killed seven family members, including several women and children, in a shootout at a house in Jost province in eastern Afghanistan, the Afghan police reported on Monday.
The shootout took place late Sunday in a house in the Mandozai district, also known as Ismail Jel. Another family member was injured in the attack. “We have identified the attacker and he will be arrested soon,” the provincial police spokesman, Adel Haidar, told the DPA.
Without giving details, the police said that the shootout was motivated by “legal issues” and that the shooter may have been a relative of the victims. In Afghanistan, a country where many citizens have access to self-defense weapons, violent incidents of personal hostility or land or water problems are common.
Last Friday, armed men in the Ali Sher district in Jost province killed eight people, including a former candidate for parliament.
