MADRID, Jan. 16 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The new president of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, announced Thursday that the country “definitively” breaks its diplomatic relations with the Government of Venezuela and has added that it will “close” the Caracas Embassy in the country.
“We have turned the orders to the Foreign Minister (Pedro Brolo) so that the only person left in the Venezuelan Embassy in Guatemala will return,” he said in statements to the press.
“We are definitely closing relations with the Government of Venezuela. We are going to close the Embassy,” added Giammattei, an announcement made after meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro.
Almagro has confirmed through his account on the social network Twitter that both have addressed “the Venezuelan crisis” and have agreed “on the need to support the actions of the president in charge, Juan Guaidó and continue to exert pressure on the dictatorship to achieve the redemocratization of the country. ”
