Greek coast guards rescue 150 migrants in the Aegean Sea

September 9, 2020

The troops of the Greek coast guard and the crew of a cargo ship rescued around 150 migrants and refugees on board a ship in distress in the Aegean Sea off the island of Amorgos.

The migrants were brought on board the freighter, which has continued on its way to Turkey, where the migrants will also disembark, a spokesman for the coast guard told the DPA news agency.

One person would have disappeared during the rescue. According to the public channel ERT, authorities suspect that it is the boat’s trafficker who jumped into the sea before the rescue. The area is the site of strong winds that make it difficult to find.
