Germany has sent 500,000 coronavirus tests to the African Center for Disease Detection and Prevention in Ethiopia for distribution to countries on the continent.
German aid arrived via the humanitarian airlift, which enables the EU to accelerate the shipment of medical cargo during the coronavirus pandemic. In total, the deliveries mobilized by Germany since the beginning of the crisis amount to 1.4 million tests and are part of the 10 million euros of the package promised by Berlin with the African Union.
“Through the EU Airlift, the Commission continues to work hand in hand with Member States to assist the most vulnerable countries in this pandemic. It is in our common interest to fight the pandemic on a global scale,” said the Commissioner from crisis management, Janez Lenarcic.
The Slovenian Commissioner has estimated that with this broadcast it will be possible to help many countries as it will support the response of the African Union across the continent. “We are committed to shipping essential medical equipment to the countries where it is needed most,” he said.
