Germany says that travelers returning from high-risk areas must be tested for coronavirus

The German government announced on Monday that travelers returning to the country from high-risk areas for the new coronavirus must undergo “mandatory” tests.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn has emphasized that he will use his powers to “impose an obligation on those arriving from risk areas to undergo tests”, given the increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.

The German Chancellor’s chief of staff, Angela Merkel, has urged the population to continue physical distance and hygiene measures to curb the spread of the pandemic.
