Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas refused on Sunday that the German authorities delay the investigation into the poisoning of the Russian opponent Alexei Navalni hospitalized in Berlin.
Maas has stated that he has already ratified that he will approve the Russian request for legal assistance in this case and that it has been communicated to the Russian ambassador. “There is no reason not to allow this,” he told ARD public television.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zajarova has said that they will work with Berlin on the investigation, but has chosen Berlin to delay the investigation.
“Berlin must prove its functionality,” he said in statements to the public television service Russia-24 and emphasized that the public prosecutor’s office had not yet answered the request.
