Germany is committed to promoting gender equality in all its future public policies

July 9, 2020

The German government adopted a new strategic plan this Wednesday to promote future real equality between men and women in all public programs and laws that will be developed in the coming years.

It is the first time that a German government has committed itself to such a strategy in all areas of work to improve gender equality, an issue that fell within the remit of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.

“Although the German constitution anchored gender equality, it took decades for the entire government to commit to enforcement,” said Minister for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth, Franziska Giffey.

The goals mentioned in the document include initiatives to include more women in management positions, a more equitable distribution of care work between the sexes and an improvement in reconciliation measures between family and work commitments.
