Germany is approaching 250,000 COVID-19 cases after registering nearly 1,000 in 24 hours

The German health authorities reported 998 new cases of coronavirus this Sunday, an infection rate that has already increased the provisional balance to 250,000 – especially 249,985.

The Robert Koch Institute, the government agency responsible for the control and monitoring of infectious diseases, has raised the preliminary death toll to 9,325, one more than on Saturday, while the number recovered has already exceeded 223,000.

Angela Merkel’s government and the regions have in the past few days spoken out in favor of tightening restrictions to contain the outbreaks of the past few weeks, with explicit recommendations not to travel to areas considered to be at risk.
