The new coronavirus pandemic, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has left 1,311 new cases and eight deaths in Germany in the last 24 hours, compared with 1,256 infections and the eleven deaths the previous day the Robert Koch Institute, the government agency, responsible for the control and monitoring of infectious diseases.
With the new data, the balance of the pandemic on German soil amounts to 246,166 cases and 9,321 deaths. The number of people who have managed to overcome COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, climbs to 220,500 after 1,400 patients have been discharged in the past 24 hours.
With 59,527 positives and 1,819 deaths, North Rhine-Westphalia is the most severely affected state in Germany, followed by Bavaria with 58,077 cases and 2,641 deaths and Baden Württemberg with 42,614 infected people and 1,868 deaths. Berlin has 11,431 cases and 226 deaths.
Angela Merkel’s government and the regions have in the past few days spoken out in favor of tightening restrictions to contain the outbreaks of the past few weeks, with explicit recommendations not to travel to areas considered to be at risk.
