In Germany, more than 160,000 people are infected with coronavirus. This emerges from a new equilibrium that increases the temporary death toll from this pandemic to nearly 6,500, which now equates to more than three million infections worldwide.
According to the Robert Koch Institute, the federal agency responsible for monitoring communicable diseases in Germany, around 160,700 people tested positive, 1,639 more than on Thursday. The death toll has risen to 6,481, with 193 more.
Bavaria is the most affected state with almost 42,500 infections and 1,850 deaths, followed by North Rhine-Westphalia (more than 33,000 positive and 1,261 deaths) and Baden-Württemberg (almost 32,000 infections and 1,385 deaths). The capital Berlin registered 5,887 cases and 149 deaths.
The Angela Merkel government announced on Thursday that certain restrictions on the handling of the corona virus would be lifted so that various states could reopen playgrounds, museums, churches or zoos.
The Chancellor reaffirmed her call to be “cautious” at this new stage, in which she has already made it clear that it will not consider taking back the trip to Europe for the time being. The next review of the measures in Germany is scheduled for May 6th.
