From Al Baghdadi to Al Mawla, the Islamic state threat persists a year later

On October 26, 2019, Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi blew himself up when he was cornered by US forces in northwest Syria where he was hiding. Months earlier, the physical “caliphate” had ceased to exist. But as with al-Qaeda after Usama bin Laden’s death in May 2011, the threat from the Islamic State has not gone away.
