French health officials warned of the high number of asymptomatic cases in the country this Monday, reporting that a further 493 infections and 19 deaths from the coronavirus were recorded on the last day.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health said that 15,726 cases were registered within one week, of which 6,808 were registered within three days.
The positivity rate has thus increased significantly and is now 2.9 percent. This data would be based on the 626,192 COVID-19 tests the government conducted between Aug. 8-14. Almost half of the new positives are asymptomatic.
A total of 30,429 people have died in France as a result of the coronavirus – 19,924 in hospitals and 10,505 in dormitories – which continues to mainly affect the regions of Ile-de-France, Haute-France and Provence.
