France reports 144 cases of Kawasaki disease related to coronavirus in children

May 18, 2020

The French Ministry of Health has reported 144 cases of minors suffering from a syndrome similar to Kawasaki disease that has been discovered since March 1 and may be related to the new coronavirus.

The new disease shows a picture of high fever, great fatigue, stomach pain and lymph nodes, specialists have explained to try to calm the parents. In most cases, the patient recovers after immunoglobulin treatment.

The formal causal relationship of this disease to the coronavirus has not been established at present, but experts point to a “plausible” connection as this type of inflammatory syndrome coincides with the spread of the coronavirus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) itself has warned of this possible relationship with the coronavirus: “Initial hypotheses suggest that this syndrome could be related to COVID-19,” said WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom on Friday. Ghebreyesus.
