Given the hospital situation, the health authorities of Upper France, one of the areas hardest hit by the UK variant, announced in a statement that they are working with the Belgian health system to move patients to the other side of the border.

These transfers could be organized from this Wednesday or in the next few days “depending on the available reception capacities, the eligibility of the patients and the consent of the families”.

At the national level, the French government has also decided to extend the weekend restrictions in the Maritime Alps region for at least another week, although government spokesman Gabriel Attal has mentioned another decision for the more distant future after ‘Le FĂgaro’.

In terms of vaccination, 4.1 million people have received at least one dose of vaccine and, according to the French government, 85.6 percent of people live in centers for the elderly.
