French Labor Minister Elisabeth Borne announced on Tuesday that the use of the mask to fight the coronavirus will be mandatory in workplaces, including outdoors, from September.
“As recommended by the Higher Public Health Council, the use of masks must be systematized in all shared work areas,” he said before specifying that this was particularly true in hallways and meeting rooms.
This is a change from the previous guidelines, which stated that the use of the mask is only compulsory if a safety distance of at least one meter cannot be maintained.
The French authorities have stated that only those who work alone are exempt from complying with these rules. With that in mind, they have recommended working from home as much as possible to reduce the risk of infection and limit public transport use.
