French Prime Minister Jean Castex recognized this Thursday that France is facing a “worsening” coronavirus pandemic. Hence, the government’s main goal has been to avoid a new general restriction at all costs.
At a press conference, Castex confirmed “an undeniable epidemic resurgence” after positive results quadrupled last month, now 39 per 100,000, and another 19 more departments have been added to the list due to the high spread of the virus, alongside Paris and Bouches-du-Rhône.
“The epidemic is recovering and now it is time to take action,” said Castex, emphasizing that “the number of hospitalizations is increasing slightly but steadily.”
“Our aim is to do everything we can to avoid a new, particularly general, restriction,” stressed the Prime Minister. With this in mind, he called on citizens to “avoid family celebrations as much as possible” and to respect protective measures “even when we are at home”.
