At least 40 parishioners tested positive for coronavirus after a Mass in a Baptist church in Frankfurt, as the local health department confirmed on Saturday.
“Most of them are not particularly sick. As far as we know, there is only one person in the hospital,” said department head Rene Gottschalk.
Wladimir Pritzkau, deputy director of the community, had previously confirmed that six people were treated in the hospital. In the nearby city of Hanau, about 25 kilometers east of Frankfurt, the authorities said in connection with the event that “at least 16 people were infected with the corona virus there”.
In response, the authorities canceled a Muslim service scheduled for Sunday at Herbert Droese Stadium in Hanau, arguing that it would be impossible to continue the event after the events in the church.
