Former Indian President Pranab Mujerji, who was admitted to the New Delhi Military Hospital after a positive coronavirus test, has deteriorated significantly and is in critical condition, according to medical sources.
84-year-old Mujerjee was already in serious condition after having had an operation to remove a brain clot. The former president tested positive for COVID-19 when a series of tests were performed for the operation.
“The former president, who underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain clot on August 10th, has shown no improvement and his health has deteriorated. He is still connected to a ventilator,” said a statement collected by the chain Hospital. NDTV.
Mujerji, who was in power between 2012 and 2017, had asked in a message posted on Twitter the day before the operation that anyone who had been in contact with him should go through a quarantine period and a COVID test -19.
“I tested positive for coronavirus during a hospital visit. I ask everyone who has been in contact with you to take action,” he said. During his political career, the former president received numerous awards and accolades, including the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor. He was also Minister for Foreign Affairs, Defense and Finance.
