Former governor Bill Richardson cannot free the Americans imprisoned in Venezuela after meeting Maduro

Former US governor Bill Richardson failed to rescue US citizens imprisoned in Venezuela during his visit to the country this week, which included a meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

The American diplomat traveled to Caracas last Monday “at the request of several American prisoners’ families” to get his release, the Richardson Center said.

Then the former New Mexico governor announced that he would meet with Maduro “to discuss the status of US prisoners and other humanitarian issues related to COVID-19.”
